The Northern Stakeholders Consultative Forum (NSCF) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against re-admitting Senator Lawal Usman Adamu, popularly known as Mr. LA, into its fold, describing him as a “serial political drifter” whose record in office has failed to meet the expectations of his constituents.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Danjuma Paul, the NSCF said the Kaduna Central lawmaker has shown “neither consistency nor loyalty” to the platforms that helped him win office.

“From defecting from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and now allegedly exploring ties with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator LA has pursued a pattern of survivalist politics rather than genuine service to the people,” the statement noted.

A Record of Underperformance

The group accused Senator LA of failing to deliver meaningful legislation or constituency projects during his tenure in the Senate. It said his name has been more associated with political drama than with initiatives aimed at addressing insecurity, poverty, and unemployment in Kaduna Central.

“His record is devoid of significant bills or motions that impact his constituency. Instead, he has been more comfortable filing petitions and deploying political theatrics, while the people he represents continue to face hardship,” the forum said.

Warning to APC

The NSCF urged APC leaders at both state and national levels to resist overtures from the senator, stressing that allowing him back into the party would undermine efforts to reposition the APC as a platform of accountability and performance-based politics.

“At a time when Nigerians are yearning for credible leaders who deliver results, welcoming back a politician with no track record of impact would be a step backward for the APC,” the statement warned.

Call for Credible Leadership

The forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting individuals with integrity and vision. It argued that Kaduna Central deserves leaders with a clear sense of service, not those who change parties to suit their ambitions.

“Political parties must prioritise competence and sincerity. Our democracy cannot thrive when individuals see platforms as revolving doors for their personal survival,” the statement added.

Background

Senator Lawal Usman Adamu, widely known as Mr. LA, rose to prominence in Kaduna politics after the 2019 elections. He initially secured his mandate under the APC before defecting to the PDP, where he consolidated his influence. Recent reports have linked him to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fuelling speculation about yet another switch in allegiance.

Critics view his constant political shifts as opportunism, while his defenders argue that Nigeria’s volatile party system compels politicians to make pragmatic choices.

For the NSCF, however, Senator LA’s potential return to APC is a move too far—one they believe would damage the credibility of the ruling party.

The Northern Awareness Network (NAN) has condemned Senator Lawal Usman Adamu’s petition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over a recent by-election in Kaduna State, describing the move as “misguided” and a distortion of the ICC’s core mandate.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Salihu Sulaiman, and made available to journalists on Thursday, the group said invoking the ICC in the context of a local electoral dispute trivialises the global institution’s mission and undermines serious international justice mechanisms.

“The ICC was established to prosecute the gravest crimes — war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. To liken a by-election dispute in Kaduna to the genocides in Rwanda or the atrocities in Darfur is both irresponsible and offensive to victims of such heinous crimes,” the statement read.

NAN described the senator’s petition as a “theatrical display” aimed at garnering attention rather than addressing the developmental challenges faced by constituents of Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

“The people expect their senator to address issues such as poverty, insecurity, education, and basic infrastructure. Instead, what we are witnessing is a disturbing trend of political posturing and legal drama that has no bearing on the immediate needs of the electorate,” NAN said.

The group further stated that Senator Adamu’s actions have brought ridicule to both his office and the democratic institutions he represents, warning that such political gimmicks erode public trust in the democratic process.

“Democracy thrives on accountability and sincere engagement with the people. Resorting to international legal bodies over domestic political disagreements only signals a lack of serious legislative focus and contributes to voter apathy,” the forum noted.

NAN also criticised the senator’s perceived lack of legislative achievements, stating that his tenure has not been marked by meaningful bills, motions, or constituency projects.

“Rather than delivering development, he has become fixated on personal political survival, ignoring the very people he was elected to serve. This fixation undermines both his credibility and the expectations of the electorate,” the statement added.

The group called on Senator Adamu to reconsider his political approach and re-engage meaningfully with issues affecting his constituents.

“The people of Kaduna Central deserve better. They need representation grounded in vision, service, and substance—not international distractions or political theatrics,” NAN said.

It urged elected officials to uphold the principles of democracy and ensure that public office is used to advance the welfare of citizens, not personal ambitions.

The Kaduna Central Women Forum (KACEWOF) has taken a swipe at former Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, describing him as a “failure, liar, and bench warmer” during his years in the National Assembly.

Their criticism follows a petition reportedly filed by Senator Lawal Adamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The petition alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) unlawfully arrested and detained the PDP candidate in the August 16 by-election, allegedly at the behest of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the group faulted Lawan for questioning the integrity of the poll, which it described as “free, fair, and credible.”

Signed by its Coordinator, Hajiya Binta Garba, KACEWOF accused the former Senate President of neglecting his legislative responsibilities, failing to sponsor people-oriented bills, and prioritizing personal ambition over national interest.

“Senator Lawan has consistently deceived the people with empty rhetoric. He has failed in his duties, lied to his constituents, and reduced himself to a bench warmer in the Senate. The time has come for Nigerians to demand accountability from leaders who have overstayed their relevance in our democracy,” the statement read.

The forum emphasized that Nigerians must begin to measure political relevance by performance and tangible achievements rather than longevity in office, stressing that democratic progress can only thrive when leaders are held accountable to the people.

The Arewa Youth for Progress and Development (AYPD) has strongly condemned activist Deji Adeyanju over his recent verbal attacks on Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, describing the comments as “reckless and unacceptable.”

Adeyanju, in a Facebook post, had accused Governor Zulum of starting his administration with “fake propaganda,” calling him “a complete disaster as governor” and alleging that he “loves tyranny and jailing critics.” He further suggested that Zulum may attempt to “repackage himself after 2027 and try to become another Nigerian messiah.”

But in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Abubakar, and made available to journalists in Maiduguri, the AYPD dismissed Adeyanju’s remarks as “baseless, misleading, and a direct insult to the resilience and sacrifices of the people of Borno State.”

“To call a performing governor, widely acknowledged as a man of the people and respected across the North, a disaster, is an insult not only to him but to all Borno indigenes who know his worth,” the statement said.

The youths reeled out what they termed Zulum’s “landmark achievements,” including the rebuilding of insurgency-ravaged communities, expansion of education and healthcare, major infrastructural projects, and poverty reduction initiatives.

Since 2019, Zulum has reportedly overseen the construction of new schools, hospitals, housing estates, and roads across rural and urban areas. He is also known for personally supervising project sites and relief efforts — a leadership style the group praised as “rare and inspiring.”

“Governor Zulum has never tried to deceive the people, nor has he portrayed himself as a messiah,” AYPD said. “He is a servant-leader whose humility, passion, and sacrifice for his people remain unmatched.”

The group gave Adeyanju a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw his comments and issue a public apology, warning that failure to comply would attract “massive resistance from northern youths determined to defend leaders who are genuinely working.”

They concluded by urging Nigerians to “rise above the distractions of professional critics and support leaders who are working in challenging environments, especially in a state like Borno that has endured years of insurgency.”

The Northwest Progressives Forum (NPF) has declared Kebbi State a national model in Hajj administration, praising Governor Nasir Idris and Alhaji Faruk Enabo, Chairman of the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for their transformative leadership and commitment to pilgrims’ welfare.

Following Kebbi’s exceptional performance during the 2024 and 2025 Hajj exercises—where the state earned eight awards from Saudi authorities—the NPF described the operations as “a masterclass in religious service delivery.” These accolades recognized Kebbi’s outstanding arrangements in areas such as sacrificial animal logistics (Hadaya), feeding, accommodation, transportation, and airport screening.

Leadership Rooted in Empathy and Action

Governor Idris’s personal involvement in the pilgrimage and his financial support to all 3,871 pilgrims in the 2025 Hajj exercise like in the previous, drew admiration from the Forum. Speaking recently, the governor pledged:

Nigerian human rights organisation House of Justice on Thursday demanded justice after the killing of one of its staff members, Samuel Kelechi Emmanuel (1985–2025), whose death has drawn condemnation from civil society groups and renewed concern about worsening insecurity in Africa’s most populous nation.

Emmanuel, 39, known to colleagues as “Big Sam”, was attacked and killed in his Kaduna home this week by unidentified assailants, the group said.

At a candlelight service at its Kaduna office, House of Justice described Emmanuel as a dedicated advocate who had risen from volunteer to a core member of the organisation over six years.

“For Sam’s mother, she lost an only and beloved son. For us at House of Justice and members of the Justice family, a committed soldier of justice who did not have to die, has gone down,” the group said in a statement.

The organisation called on Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, the state’s police commissioner and attorney general, and federal security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.

“Nigeria cannot afford needless loss of precious lives. The killers of Sam must be brought to book,” it added.

Born in 1985, Emmanuel worked on several humanitarian and justice projects, including the creation of HOJ Radio/TV and the IDP-SKARF School for children displaced by conflict. He also coordinated the group’s summits and outreach programmes and was overseeing staff recruitment for its new Jos office before his dea

Gloria Mabeiam Ballason, chief executive of House of Justice, said Emmanuel’s murder was “a deep pain” for the rights community. “We will not rest until we find justice for you,” she said at the memorial service.

Nigeria is grappling with widespread insecurity ranging from Islamist insurgencies in the northeast to banditry, kidnappings and communal violence in the north-central states. Rights groups warn that aid workers, civil society actors and ordinary citizens are increasingly vulnerable to targeted attacks.

No arrests have yet been announced in connection with Emmanuel’s killing.

Kaduna, Nigeria – The recent bye-elections in Kaduna State have been hailed as free, fair, and transparent by a coalition of rights groups and election observers, who described the exercise as a milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

Under the platform of the Coalition of Rights Groups and Election Monitors, the observers deployed teams across different local government areas, reporting high levels of transparency, voter participation, and peaceful conduct throughout the process.

In a joint statement issued in Kaduna on Wednesday, the groups gave the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) high marks for early deployment of election materials, strict adherence to guidelines, and smooth electronic transmission of results.

“The Kaduna elections set a positive example in the North-West,” said Dr. Amina Mohammed, spokesperson of the Civil Rights and Democracy Watch (CRDW). “Our observers reported minimal cases of irregularities, and those were not significant enough to affect the overall outcome. The people of Kaduna spoke clearly, and their votes counted.”

The Network of Election Observers (NEO) also commended security agencies for their professionalism during the polls.

“We observed professionalism from security operatives across polling units. Their presence reassured voters and discouraged malpractice,” stated Mr. Peter Okafor, NEO’s National Coordinator.

The groups congratulated Governor Uba Sani on his victory, urging him to carry all stakeholders along in governance while prioritizing delivery of democratic dividends. They also appealed to opposition parties to accept the outcome of the elections in good faith and work with the government to advance peace and development in Kaduna State.

With both local and international monitors endorsing the exercise, analysts say Governor Uba Sani’s mandate now enjoys added legitimacy, bolstering public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.

In a strong show of support, the Oil Industry Transparency Solidarity League (OLTRASOL) has voiced its satisfaction with the sweeping reforms initiated by Malam Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC). The group described Kyari’s tenure as “transformational and courageous,” emphasizing that his legacy should not be overshadowed by current probes or political shifts. The group called Kyari’s leadership “a rare blend of courage, vision, and integrity,” urging Nigerians not to forget the strides made under his watch.

OLTRASOL highlighted several landmark achievements under Kyari’s leadership:

Subsidy Reform: Kyari took bold steps to dismantle entrenched subsidy cartels, a move that OLTRASOL says saved Nigeria billions and restored fiscal discipline.

Exploration Expansion: He spearheaded oil exploration in previously untapped regions, signaling a new era of energy diversification.

His efforts deserve recognition, not revisionism.”

OLTRASOL warned against the tendency to vilify public servants post-tenure, especially those who dared to challenge entrenched interests. “We must not allow political winds to erase the strides made. Mele Kyari’s reforms laid the groundwork for a more transparent and accountable oil sector.” Referencing a recent public post by Senator Shehu Sani, OLTRASOL echoed the sentiment that Kyari’s legacy should be preserved:

The Concerned Niger Progressives Network (CNPN) has hailed Hon. Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as a dependable pillar in Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago’s development agenda, applauding his loyalty, results-driven leadership, and grassroots impact.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Yahaya, the group described Jantabo as both a loyal foot soldier and a strategic executor of Governor Bago’s blueprint, delivering tangible results across education, infrastructure, and political mobilization.

**Education Empowerment**
One of Jantabo’s signature interventions is the Jantabo Bursary Scheme, designed to uplift Niger State youths and inspire academic excellence. The initiative has so far supported:

*   1,111 students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), who received direct bursary support.
*   172 students from other institutions nationwide, who also benefited.

*   Rehabilitation of essential public service vehicles, including the Legislative Bus, Sure-P Bus, NHIS Bus, and NISEPA Truck.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia state, Prince Paul Ikonne, has challenged Governor Alex Otti to stop “distracting the people with contradictions” and come clean on the ₦54 billion school renovation controversy.

The Governor at the weekend during his monthly media chat had dismissed claims that N54bn is missing from the state treasury, describing the allegations as baseless and a reflection of ignorance about government budgeting and spending processes.

Reacting to the Governor’s claim through a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ujo Justice, PhD, Ikonne wondered why a governor who boasts of having “seasoned accountants” in his administration would be contradicting himself “all in a bid to downplay a now national issue and the question on the lips of every Abian: where are the schools, and where is the ₦54 billion?”

Ikonne reminded the governor that similar sums had been written off in the past without evidence on the ground, noting that about ₦18 billion was previously announced for school renovation with “nothing to show for it.”

Quoting an online media report – Sahara Reporters’ recent findings, Ikonne said the governor’s dismissal of the ₦54 billion expenditure claim as a “mistake” is contradicted by official state budget performance documents.

According to the reports, budget performance data shows that in the last quarter of 2024 alone, Abia State recorded ₦54.066 billion as spent on rehabilitation and repairs of public schools. The total amount spent throughout the 2024 fiscal year stood at ₦58.323 billion.

Ikonne argued that if Governor Otti insists that only ₦2.1 billion was spent on schools, then he must explain why his own administration’s budget records state otherwise.

He further pointed to the online report’s review of the approved 2024 budget, which showed that ₦64.7 billion was allocated for renovation/modelling of 51 schools — averaging ₦1.26 billion per school.

“This data,” Ikonne stressed, “makes it clear that the governor is either deliberately misleading Abians or is unaware of what his government is signing off.”

He welcomed the Freedom of Information (FOI) request submitted by the Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD), which is demanding a breakdown of the ₦54 billion, including the list of schools supposedly renovated, their names, locations, and the nature of works done.

“Governor Otti should stop hiding behind semantics. Budgets are estimates, but expenditures are facts. The documents clearly show ₦54 billion was reported as spent between October and December 2024. If he disputes this, let him publish the schools. Abians are not asking for excuses — we are asking for evidence,” Ikonne said.

The APC chieftain concluded by urging the governor to prioritize truth over propaganda.

“He added that Dr. Otti should realize that leadership is about accountability, not storytelling.

“He cannot claim to be the face of transparency while avoiding the simplest of questions: show us the schools.”
