Abuja – The Congress of Northern Nigerian Christians (CNNC) has appealed to Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, to grant clemency to Sunday Jackson, a death row inmate.
In a letter dated April 18, the group commended Fintiri’s administration for its efforts in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, but expressed concern over Jackson’s death sentence.
According to the CNNC, Jackson acted in self-defense, and his prolonged incarceration constitutes a grave injustice. The group cited Sections 33(1) and 33(2)(a) of the 1999 Constitution, which protect the right to life and self-defense.
The CNNC believes a pardon would serve as a powerful symbol of justice and compassion, further solidifying Fintiri’s reputation as a fair and humane leader.
The group’s National President, Elder Stephen Bankoji, prayed for divine wisdom and protection as the governor considers the decision.
Governor Fintiri’s office has not yet responded to the appeal.
