In a dramatic turn of events, executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ungwar Sarki Ward in Kaduna, Nigeria, have pledged their support for Governor Uba Sani. This move comes after the members, who felt neglected and abandoned by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, visited Senator Shehu Sani to express their grievances.
During the visit, Senator Shehu Sani warned the members against being deceived into dumping the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing El-Rufai’s lack of support for them during his eight-year tenure as governor. Sani appealed to the Ward Exco members to remain in the party and work for Governor Uba Sani during the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Ward Chairman Aliyu Ibrahim lamented the neglect they suffered under El-Rufai’s administration, stating that “not even a dime was given for our support and loyalty to the party” ¹. Despite initial plans to dump the party, the members reversed their decision after the meeting and pledged to support Governor Uba Sani.
This significant shift in loyalty demonstrates the Ward Exco members’ willingness to work against El-Rufai in the 2027 elections. The visit and subsequent pledge of support also highlight the growing divide between El-Rufai and his former allies.
